Agong's Birthday

Agong's Birthday is a public holiday in Malaysia and is observed on the first Monday in June each year. The holiday marks the birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the constitutional monarch and head of the state of Malaysia established in 1957.

Nine rulers of the Malay states formed the Conference of Rulers, and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was elected by and from the Conference of Rulers. The Office de facto rotated between them with a 5-year term if a vacancy in the office (e.g., death, resignation), a new Yang di-Pertuan Agong will be elected with a new 5-year term.

On Jan 31, 2019, Al-Sultan Abdullah was sworn in and signed his oath of office as Malaysia's new King to replace Sultan Muhammad V, who stepped down on Jan 6 of the same year. Agong's Birthday was also changed from June 6 to June 8, and it is also agreed that from 2021, Agong's Birthday will be moved to the first Monday in June each year throughout his ruling.
