Victory Day (North Korea)

Victory Day is a public holiday in North Korea, observed on July 27 yearly. The holiday celebrates the anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement signed on July 27, 1953, which brought a cease-fire to the Korean War.

The Korean War was fought between North Korea and South Korea. North Korea was supported by China and the Soviet Union, while the United Nations supported South Korea. The war began on June 25, 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea, and it ended on July 27, 1953, with approximately 3 million war fatalities, including many civilians.
