Republic Day (Taiwan)

Republic Day is a public holiday in Taiwan on January 1 yearly. The holiday commemorates the Republic of China and was declared on January 1, 1912, due to the Xinhai Revolution, also known as the 1911 Revolution.

The Qing dynasty took power and ruled China in 1644. However, the power was getting weak in the early 20th century. Many revolts and uprisings against the ruling Qing dynasty took place all over the country.

The Xinhai Revolution started on October 10, 1911, in Wuchang, a city in Hubei province, and the revolution successfully overthrew China's last imperial dynasty. It also marked the end of the 2,000 years of monarchy in China.

On January 1, 1912, the Republic of China was established, and Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Republic, served as the provisional president.
