Holidays in Belarus 2023

In Belarus, there are nine public holidays with 10 days in 2023, two of which fall on weekends.

New Year's Day
New Year Holiday is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar, and it is one of the most popular holidays in the world. The holiday lasts two days in Belarus, January 1 and 2, 2023.

International Women's Day
The holiday is one of the most important days to recognize the achievements made by women and to raise awareness about women's equality. It is observed on March 8, 2023.

In ancient times, the Slavs had a tradition of visiting family members' graves during the spring. They bring food and drink and feast with them besides the graves. After they became Christianity, the tradition was kept with the new name of Radonitsa, which means "joy", stemming from the Christian belief in Jesus' Resurrection after his crucifixion. In 2023, it falls on April 25.

Labour Day
Labour Day is celebrated on May 01, 2023 celebrating the achievements of workers. The holiday originates in the eight-hour day movement, which is eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

Victory Day
Victory Day is observed on May 09, 2023, and it commemorates the anniversary of when the German Instrument of Surrender was signed. It was a legal document that effected the extinction of Nazi Germany and ended World War II in Europe.

Independence Day
Independence Day is a public holiday in Belarus, observed on July 3, 2023. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of Minsk's liberation from German troops by the Soviet army in 1944.

October Revolution Day
October Revolution, also known as Red October or the October Uprising, occurred on November 7, 1917 in the Gregorian calendar on October 25 on the Julian calendar. This is also why the revolution was named October Revolution. In 2023, it falls on November 7.

Christmas Day
Christmas Day commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Christmas Day is a holiday of sharing. People exchange Christmas gifts and cards with families and friends. The holiday is observed on December 25, 2023 in Catholic churches and January 7, 2023 in Orthodox churches.
