Children's Day (South Korea)

Children's Day is a public holiday in South Korea, observed on May 5 each year.

Children's Day in Korea started from the Independence Movement Day to achieve Korean independence from Japanese colonialism when people tried to improve children's social status and encourage adults to teach awareness of their deprived sovereignty.

One of the important supporters was children's rights activist and children's writer Dr. Bang Jung-Hwan, who was also considered the father of children's literature in Korea.

Children's Day was first designated on May 1 in 1922 and moved to May 5 in 1946 because May 1 overlapped with Labour Day.
