Victory Day is a public holiday in Mozambique, and it is observed on September 7 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the Lusaka Accord agreement being signed on September 7, 1974, which led to the country's independence in 1975.

Mozambique became Portugal's colony in the early 16th century. After World War II, many European nations were granting independence to their colonies, and the independence movement in Mozambique developed rapidly. In 1962, the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) was formed and began the fighting for independence from the Portuguese colonial rule.

The Mozambican War of Independence started on September 25, 1964, when attempts at peaceful negotiation by the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) were abandoned. The Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) managed to maintain friendly relations with the Soviet Union and China and received support from both during the war of independence.

On September 7, 1974, the Lusaka Accord agreement was signed, and the war was ended with a ceasefire on September 8, 1974. The agreement provided for a complete handover of power to the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and led to independence on June 25, 1975.
