Victory Day is a public holiday in Belarus, and it is observed on May 9 each year.
Victory Day commemorates the anniversary when the German Instrument of Surrender was officially signed and it was a legal document that effected the extinction of Nazi Germany and ended World War II in Europe.
The document was signed on the night of May 8, 1945 at Berlin Time, which was the morning of May 9 at Moscow Time, and for this reason, Belarus and the Russian community celebrate Victory Day on May 9, while many other European countries celebrate on May 8.
