Victory and Peace Day is a public holiday in Armenia, and it is observed on May 9 each year.
The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the German Instrument of Surrender was signed and it was a legal document that effected the extinction of Nazi Germany and ended World War II in Europe.
The document was signed on the night of May 8, 1945 at Berlin Time, which was on May 9 at Moscow Time, and for this reason, Armenia and the Russian community celebrate Victory Day on May 9, while many other European countries celebrate on May 8.
