Repentance and Prayer Day is a public holiday in the state of Saxony, Germany, and it is observed on Wednesday that falls between November 16 and November 22.
Repentance and Prayer Day was celebrated on different days in different places in 1878, and in 1893, Prussia, a German kingdom, ended this plurality and fixed the celebration day of Repentance and Prayer Day.
In 1994, the Federal Government of Germany passed a law improving the federal funding for nursing care insurance, and proposed to increase the working time by one day with no increase of wages. The revenue from this unpaid day was used to secure the nursing care information. All states except Saxony agreed. As a result, Saxony is the only state now celebrate Repentance and Prayer Day as a public holiday.
