Pchum Ben, also known as the ancestors' festival, is a public holiday in Cambodia, and it is observed on the 15th day of the tenth month in the Khmer calendar each year.
Pchum Ben is a 15 days Cambodian religious festival, and it is the longest and also a unique festival in Cambodia. It is believed the gates of hell are open during the festival, and ancestors' souls are released from the spirit world to find their relatives.
It is a festival for Cambodians to pay respects to deceased relatives for many generations. During the festival, people offer lots of food to the souls of their ancestors. Many people also bring food to temples or pagodas as an indirect way to benefit the ancestors' souls.
