National Heroes' Day (Barbados)

National Heroes' Day is a public holiday in Barbados, and it is observed on April 28 each year.

In 1998, an Act was passed by the Parliament in Barbados to provide the conferment of the honor of national heroes. According to the Act, ten people have been titled national heroes. They are the most prominent figures in Barbados' history who made significant contributions to the country.

The celebration day of National Heroes' Day is the birthday of Sir Grantley Adams, who was born on April 28, 1898, and was a founder of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

  • Samuel Jackman Prescod (1806–1871)
  • Bussa (died 1816)
  • Charles Duncan O'Neal (1879–1936)
  • Sir Grantley Herbert Adams (1898–1971)
  • Clement Osbourne Payne (1904–1941)
  • Sir Hugh Worrell Springer (1913–1994)
  • Sir Frank Leslie Walcott (1916–1999)
  • Errol Barrow (1920–1987)
  • Sir Garfield St Auburn Sobers (1936)
