Independence Day (Bolivia)

Independence Day is a public holiday in Bolivia, and it is observed on August 6 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of Bolivia gaining its independence from Spain in 1825.

Bolivia is a landlocked country located in western-central South America. Spanish explorers arrived and took control of the territory when the Spanish defeated the great Incas in the 16th century.

The Bolivian Independence War lasted almost sixteen years from 1809 to 1825 and involved many battles. The Chuquisaca Revolution occurred in 1809, marking the first step in the Spanish-American wars of independence.

On December 9, 1824, in the decisive Battle of Ayacucho, about 7,000 South American patriots led by Antonio José de Sucre defeated the Spanish army of 10,000 soldiers, which secured the independence of Peru and ensured independence for the rest of South America.

After the victory at Ayacucho, Antonio José de Sucre entered the Bolivian region in 1925, and on August 6, 1925, Bolivia declared independence from Spain.
