Holidays in Taiwan 2023

There are 13 public holidays in Taiwan in 2023, three of which fall on weekends.

New Year's Day
New Year Holiday, celebrated on January 1, 2023, is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar, and it is one of the most popular holidays in the world.

Republic Day
Republic Day is a public holiday in Taiwan on January 1, 2023. The holiday commemorates the Republic of China and was declared on January 1, 1912, due to the Xinhai Revolution, also known as the 1911 Revolution.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year is the most important time for the family union. Hundreds of thousands of people who work outside will go back to their hometowns to meet families and friends. The holiday lasts from January 20 to 26, 2023.

Peace Memorial Day
Peace Memorial Day is a public holiday in Taiwan, observed on February 28, 2023. The holiday commemorates the uprising in Taiwan on February 28, 1947, violently suppressed by the government and ended with thousands of deaths.

Children's Day
Children's Day, observed on April 4, 2023, is a holiday in many countries worldwide, and the date varies in different countries. Children's Day honors children, promoting international awareness and improving children's welfare.

Qingming Festival
The holiday is observed on April 5, 2023. During the holiday, people visit and sweep ancestral tombs and make ritual offerings, typically food dishes, fruits, and the burning of joss sticks, joss paper, and spirit money. Many people also bring flowers.

Labour Day
Labour Day is observed on May 1, 2023, and it celebrates the achievements of workers. The holiday originates in the eight-hour day movement, which is eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

Dragon Boat Festival
Dragon Boat Festival, observed on June 22, 2023, is a holiday based on the traditional Chinese calendar commemorating the death of Qu Yuan (340–278 BC), a poet and a reformer in the ancient state of Chu during the Warring States period.

Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals dating back 3,000 years when the emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests. Mooncakes are the traditional food during the festival, and they are offered by friends or served at family gatherings while celebrating the festival. The holiday falls on September 29, 2023.

National Day
National Day is a public holiday in Taiwan, observed on October 10, 2023. The holiday commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising on October 10, 1911, which marks the beginning of the Xinhai Revolution, also known as the 1911 Revolution.
