Holidays in Macau 2024

There are 20 public holidays in Macau in 2024, six of which fall on weekends.

New Year's Day
New Year Holiday, celebrated on January 1, 2024, is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar, and it is one of the most popular holidays in the world.

Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, is the most important time for the family union. Hundreds of thousands of people working outside will return to their hometowns to meet families and friends. The holiday lasts three days from February 10, 2024.

Good Friday
Good Friday is a Christian holiday celebrating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed on Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday, March 29, 2024.

Holy Saturday
Holy Saturday is the day before Easter Sunday and after Good Friday, and it is a public holiday in many countries. It falls on March 30, 2024.

Easter Monday
Easter Monday is to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, and it is the Monday after Easter Sunday. It is observed on April 1, 2024.

Cheng Ming Festival
The festival is also called Tomb Sweeping Festival, a traditional Chinese festival observed in China and Southeast Asia on April 4, 2024. People visit and sweep ancestral tombs and make ritual offerings, typically food dishes, fruits, and the burning of joss sticks and spirit money.

Labour Day
Labour Day is observed on May 1, 2024, and it celebrates the achievements of workers. The holiday originates in the eight-hour day movement, which is eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

Buddha's Birthday

Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals dating back 3,000 years when the emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests. Mooncakes are the traditional food during the festival, and they are offered by friends or served at family gatherings while celebrating the festival. The holiday falls on September 18, 2024.

PRC National Day
PRC National Day, observed on October 1 and 2, 2024, commemorates the formal establishment of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.

Chung Yeung Festival
It is observed in the Chinese calendar on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. Climbing high mountains, drinking chrysanthemum liquor, and wearing the Cornus officinalis are traditional things people normally do during the festival. People believe that climbing mountains will bring them good lucks. It falls on October 11, 2024.

All Souls' Day
This is a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have died, observed on November 2, 2024.

Immaculate Conception
The holiday is observed on December 8, 2024, and it celebrates the Virgin Mary has been free of original sin from the moment of her conception.

Macau Special Administrative Region Establishment Day
Macau Special Administrative Region Establishment Day is a public holiday in Macau, observed on December 8, 2024. The holiday commemorates the transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to the People's Republic of China and the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region.

Winter Solstice
