Double Ninth Festival, also called Double Ninth Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday, and it is observed on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month in the Chinese calendar.
According to the I Jing, the number 6 is a Yin (阴) character and the number 9 is a Yang (阳) character. The 9th day of the 9th lunar month has 2 Yang (阳) characters, and thus was named the Double Ninth Festival and was considered an auspicious date.
Climbing high mountains, drinking chrysanthemum liquor, and wearing the Cornus officinalis are traditional things people will normally do during the festival. People believe that climbing mountains will bring them good lucks.
Double Ninth Festival is also one of the festivals including Chinese New Year, Qingming Festival, and Dragon Boat Festival that people will visit and clean their ancestors' graves to pay their respects.
