Holidays in Macau 2023

There are 17 public holidays with 20 days in Macau in 2023, and six days fall on weekends.

New Year's Day
New Year Holiday, celebrated on January 1, 2023, is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar, and it is one of the most popular holidays in the world.

Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, is the most important time for the family union. Hundreds of thousands of people working outside will return to their hometowns to meet families and friends. The holiday lasts three days from January 22, 2023.

Cheng Ming Festival
The festival is also called Tomb Sweeping Festival, a traditional Chinese festival observed in China and Southeast Asia on April 5, 2023. People visit and sweep ancestral tombs and make ritual offerings, typically food dishes, fruits, and the burning of joss sticks and spirit money.

Good Friday
Good Friday is a Christian holiday celebrating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed on Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday, April 7, 2023.

Holy Saturday

PRC National Day, observed on October 1 and 2, 2023, commemorates the formal establishment of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.

Chung Yeung Festival
It is observed in the Chinese calendar on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month. Climbing high mountains, drinking chrysanthemum liquor, and wearing the Cornus officinalis are traditional things people normally do during the festival. People believe that climbing mountains will bring them good lucks. It falls on October 23, 2023.

All Souls' Day

Immaculate Conception
The holiday is observed on December 8, 2023, and it celebrates the Virgin Mary has been free of original sin from the moment of her conception.

Macau Special Administrative Region Establishment Day
