Gawai Dayak

Gawai Dayak is a public holiday in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, and it is observed on June 1 and 2 each year.

Gawai Dayak is a festival giving thanks to the gods after the rice harvesting season is over. It is a thanksgiving day marking a bountiful harvest and a time planning for the new farming season.

Gawai Dayak is one of the most exciting festivals for the Dayak people and family members study or working outside will come back home and join the celebrations.

Traditional food and drink such as the rice wine called "tuak" will be served during the festival.
