Federal Territory Day marks the anniversary of the formation of the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, which was formed on February 1, 1974, as the first Federal Territory in Malaysia.
- February 1, 1974, Kuala Lumpur seceded from Selangor and the city became the first federal territory;
- April 16, 1984, Labuan became the second federal territory; and
- February 1, 2001, Putrajaya became the third federal territory.
