Day of Songun is a public holiday in North Korea, observed on August 25 each year. The holiday commemorates Kim Jong-il's inspection of the 105th Armored Division on August 25, 1960, with his father, Kim Il-sung, which was considered the beginning of the Songun leadership.
Songun is the military first leader who puts great importance on the army. The Korean People's Army has priorities in the affairs of the state and the allocation of resources.
Songun was first introduced during the famine, the worst economic crisis in the 1990s in North Korea. The government set the military's first politics to recover the country's economy.
