Carnival Monday is a public holiday on the island of Saba, and it is observed on the last Monday in July each year.
Carnival Monday is a Christian holiday observed in many places, and it falls on the day 46 days before Easter Sunday. It is a holiday before the Lenten fasting, which lasts 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, excluding Sunday in the Christian churches. The Lantern fasting commemorates the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert.
However, Carnival Monday is a holiday celebrating the slavery abolishment in many Caribbean countries. As a result, many Caribbean countries observe Carnival Monday in late July or early August.
Saba is a Caribbean island and a special municipality of the Netherlands. It is one of the three islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, known as the Caribbean Netherlands.
