World Children's Day (Germany)

World Children's Day is a holiday observed in many countries around the world, and the date varies in different countries. World Children's Day is in honour of children, promoting international awareness and improving children's welfare.

In 1925, during the World Conference on Child Welfare, International Children's Day was first proclaimed. In 1949, Children's Day was celebrated on June 1 in Russia. Since then most Communist countries celebrate Children's Day on June 1 each year.

In 1954, World Children's Day was first established as the universal Children's Day with the celebration date on November 20 to improve children's welfare.

East Germany and West Germany had different customs before they were merged. In East Germany, people celebrated International Children's Day on June 1, while people celebrated on September 20 in West Germany.

Universal Children's Day has been the official celebration for Germany after the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. However, some areas still celebrate in the former days. In Thuringia, Germany, World Children's Day is observed on September 20 each year.
