German Unity Day is a national holiday in Germany and it is observed on October 3 each year. The holiday commemorates the reunification of West Germany and East Germany and the reunification was formally completed on October 3, 1990.
After the defeat of Germany in World War II in 1945, Germany was divided into two countries: East and West. The Berlin Wall, first built in 1961, was the famous symbol separating the two countries, and it was demolished in 1989 before the reunification.
