Vincy Mas is the Carnival in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and it is the biggest celebration on the island. The last two days of the festival are public holidays of Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday, which are usually observed on the first Monday and the following Tuesday in July.
The holiday was originally celebrated the night before Lent fasting, which lasts 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter excluding Sunday in the Christian churches.
However, Carnival is to celebrate the slavery abolishment in many Caribbean countries. As a result, many Caribbean countries observe the Carnival celebrations in July or early August to commemorate the anniversary when slavery was abolished on August 1, 1834.
