Victory Day is a public holiday in Turkey on August 30 yearly. The holiday commemorates the victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar on August 30, 1922. The Battle of Dumlupınar was the last in the Greco-Turkish War, fought between Greece and the Turkish National Movement from May 1919 to October 1922.
During the battle, the Turkish army re-captured all the territories the Greek army invaded in May 1919. Victory Day is celebrated on August 30, 1923, and became an official holiday in 1926.
