Democracy and National Unity Day is a public holiday in Turkey, and it is observed on July 15 each year. The holiday commemorates the national unity against the coup attempt for democracy and honors those who lost their lives while defeating the coup in 2016.
During the attempted coup on July 15, 2016, over 250 people were killed, and more than 2,000 people were injured. Many government buildings, including the Turkish Parliament, were destroyed.
July 15 became a national holiday as Democracy and National Unity Day after the formal procedures in 2017.
