The Prophet's Birthday, also known as Mawlid, or Milad-un-Nabi, Id-e-Milad, is a public holiday in many countries, and it falls in Rabi' al-awwal, which is the third month in the Islamic calendar.
The Prophet's Birthday commemorates the birthday of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, who was an Arab religious and political leader and the founder of Islam. Muhammad was born around 570, AD in Mecca, and he was a deeply spiritual man spending time in meditation.
It is said that the Angel Jibrail visited the Prophet Muhammad while he was meditating in a small cave outside of Mecca. After this first revelation, the Prophet Muhammad has received daily revelations for 23 years till his death in 632.
