Statehood Day is a public holiday in Lithuania, and it is observed on July 6 each year.
Statehood Day commemorates the coronation of Mindaugas in 1253 as the country's first and only king. Mindaugas was considered the person who united the Baltic tribes and the founder of the state. He was assassinated in the fall of 1263.
In the 1990s, the historian Edvardas Gudavičius formulated and published Mindaugas' coronation day on July 6, celebrated as a public holiday in Lithuania since 1991.
