Revolution Day (North Macedonia)

Revolution Day, also known as the day of the Macedonian Uprising against fascism, is a public holiday in North Macedonia, and it is observed on October 11 each year.

Revolution Day commemorates the beginning of the Macedonian resistance to the Axis forces in 1941.

The Republic of North Macedonia is a country in Southeast Europe. After World War I, the North Macedonia became part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. On April 6, 1941, the Axis forces invaded Yugoslavia from all sides, and forced the unconditional surrender of Yugoslav. Germany, Italy, Hungary, and Bulgaria then partitioned the Yugoslavia. The Bulgarian army invaded in the North Macedonia area on April 19, 1941 and occupied nearly all the modern-day North Macedonia.

Following the surrender, the communist-led Yugoslav Partisans movement was formed. On October 11, 1941, the armed insurgents from the Prilep Partisan Detachment attacked the Axis occupied zones. The event was considered as the beginning of the Revolution War. The War against the Axis lasted almost 4 years till the mid-November 1944.
