President's Day (Marshall Islands)

President's Day is a public holiday in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, observed on November 17 yearly. The holiday commemorates the birthday of the first President of the Marshall Islands, Amata Kabua, born on November 17, 1928.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is an independent island country in the Pacific Ocean. Amata Kabua became the first president in 1979 when the Constitution was adopted, and the Republic of Marshall Islands was established.

He was a principal participant in the negotiations to gain independence and was re-elected in 1983, 1987, 1991, and 1995. He served as the President for five consecutive terms for 17 years and died in his fifth term on December 19, 1996, after a long illness.
