National Mourning Day (Bangladesh)

National Mourning Day is a public holiday in Bangladesh, and it is observed on August 15 each year.

National Mourning Day marks the assassination of Mujibur Rahman in 1975, who was born on March 17, 1920, and died on August 15, 1975 at the age of 55. He was considered the architect of independent Bangladesh and the father of Bangladesh.

Mujibur Rahman was the central figure behind the Bangladesh Liberation Movement and was considered the driving force behind the independence of Bangladesh. He was the first President and later the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

On August 15, 1975, a group of armed officers invaded the presidential residence and killed Mujibur Rahman during a coup.
