National Flag Day is a public holiday in Eswatini, and it is observed on April 25 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Eswatini flag being first hoisted on April 25, 1967.
The Kingdom of Eswatini is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, and its population is composed primarily of ethnic Swazis. In the middle of the 18th century, the Swazis built their kingdom, which became a British protectorate in 1903, with the name the Swaziland Protectorate.
The Eswatini flag was designed based on the military flag of the Swazi Pioneer Corps, and it was first hoisted on April 25, 1967, when King Sobhuza II took the oath pledge. The flag has been used since Eswatini gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1968.
The flag is colorful with five horizontal stripes: two blue stripes at the top and bottom, one red stripe in the middle, and two thin yellow stripes bordering the red stripe. On the red stripe is a traditional shield and two assegais-local spears, representing the Swazi people are being protected.
