National Day, also known as The Sovereign Prince's Day, is a public holiday in Monaco, and it is observed on November 19 each year.
The reigning Prince determined the celebration day of National Day, and it began in 1857 during Prince Charles III's reign. Several different celebration dates have been determined since then. When Prince Rainier III ascended to the throne in 1949, he chose November 19 as the celebration day. When Prince Albert II ascended the throne in 2005, he kept the same day as the celebration day.
People will decorate their places with red and white flags. On the evening before the holiday, people celebrate with fireworks in the harbor, and the Princely Family of Monaco is expected to show up on National Day.
