Memorial Day is a religious holiday that commemorates deceased families, relatives, and close friends. On Memorial Day, people will visit the cemeteries and clean the graves of their loved ones.
Like many places, people bring flowers, food, and drink when visiting the cemeteries. However, different from other cultures, people in Moldova will sit alongside the graves, eat and drink together, and share stories in memory of deceased loved ones.
The traditions in Moldova are very similar to Radonitsa in Belarus, which is observed on the second Tuesday after Orthodox Easter. People will also bring food and drink and feast with them beside the graves during the holiday.
