Mawlid, or Milad-un-Nabi, Id-e-Milad, Prophet's Birthday, is a public holiday in many countries, and it falls in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
Mawlid commemorates the birthday of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, an Arab religious and political leader and the founder of Islam. Muhammad was born around 570 AD in Mecca, and he was a deeply spiritual man spending time in meditation.
It is said that Angel Jibrail visited the Prophet Muhammad while he was meditating in a small cave outside of Mecca. After this first revelation, the Prophet Muhammad received daily revelations for 23 years till his death in 632.
