Malvinas Day (Argentina)

Malvinas Day is a public holiday in Argentina, and it is celebrated on April 2 each year. The holiday commemorates those Argentines killed in the Falklands War, which was fought between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

On April 2, 1982, Argentina invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands, and then invaded South Georgia the next day. The British government dispatched a naval task force fought back on April 5, 1982.

The battle lasted 74 days and ended up an Argentine surrender on June 14, and the Falkland Islands returned to British control. 649 Argentines and 255 British military personnel died during the battle.
