Liberation Day (Albania)

Liberation Day is a public holiday in Albania, observed on November 29 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of Albania's liberated from Nazi German forces in 1944.

Albania is a country in southeastern Europe, and it fell under the Ottoman Empire in the early 15th century. Influenced by the French Revolution, Albanian intellectuals and patriots started the independence movements in the 19th century.

In 1912, an uprising was provoked in Albania, and it lasted 8 months, from January to August, which led to the declaration of independence from the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912.

In 1939, the Kingdom of Italy invaded Albania and made it a protectorate of Italy. Nazi Germany occupied Albania in September 1943 after Italy was defeated by the Allies in World War II, and formed a government that fought against the communist-led National Liberation Front.

In April 1944, the National Liberation Front took control of southern Albania, and on November 29, 1994, the National Liberation Front entirely liberated the country from German occupation.
