Liberation and Resistance Day is a public holiday in Lebanon, and it is observed on May 25 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when the Israeli army withdrew from the territory in Southern Lebanon on May 25, 2000, marking the end of the South Lebanon conflict.
In 1982, the Israeli military invaded Lebanese territory and took control of South Lebanon. The war ended in 1985, but Israel maintained a military presence in South Lebanon until May 25, 2000.
