James Ronald Webster Day (Anguilla)

James Ronald Webster Day is a public holiday celebrated in Anguilla, and it is observed on March 2 each year. The holiday honors James Ronald Webster, a politician in Anguilla.

He was born on March 02, 1926 in Anguilla, and became the Chairman when Anguilla declared its separation from Saint Kitts and Nevis following a referendum in 1967. However, Saint Kitts and Nevis refused at the beginning.

In 1976, he became the first Chief Minister when his party People's Progressive Party, won the election, but he was removed one year after. In 1980, Anguilla was allowed to formally secede from Saint Kitts and Nevis and become a separate British Crown colony. James Ronald Webster again became the Chief Minister of Anguilla. He was considered the father of his territory, and he died on December 09, 2016 at the age of 90.
