Independence Day (Jordan)

Independence Day is a public holiday in Jordan, and it is observed on May 25 each year.

Independence Day celebrates independence from the British government in 1946. The Ottoman invaded and gained Jordan in 1516. Following World War I, the Hashemite Army launched a revolt supported by the Allies of World War I. The revolt ended 400 years of Ottoman rule in 1918.

After World War I, Britain and the French redrew the Middle East's borders, and Jordan's independence was recognized, but it became the British Mandate. On March 22, 1946, the independence treaty was signed between Jordan and the British; however, full independence was only achieved 2 years after in 1948.
