St. Cyril and St. Methodius Day
St. Cyril and St. Methodius were two brothers born in the 9th century. They both became missionaries when they grew up and brought Christianity to the Slavic peoples of central Europe. The holiday falls on July 5, 2023.
Jan Hus Day
Jan Hus Day, observed on July 6, 2023, commemorates the Martyrdom of Jan Hus, a Czech theologian and scholar. He was born in 1372 and died on July 6, 1415. He was a Church reformer and was burned for his opinions against the doctrines of the Catholic Church.
Czech Statehood Day
Czech Statehood Day, also known as St. Wenceslas Day, is a public holiday in the Czech Republic, and it is observed on September 28, 2023. Czech Statehood Day commemorates the martyrdom of Czech Prince Wenceslas, who his brother assassinated on September 28, 935.
Czechoslovak Independence Day
Czechoslovak Independent Day, observed on October 28, 2023, celebrates the birth of independent Czechoslovakia when it was declared independence from Austria-Hungary on October 28, 1918.
Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day
Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day, observed on November 17, 2024, commemorates the two most important events in the Czech Republic and Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia): the student demonstrations on November 17, 1939, and the student demonstrations on November 1989.
Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25, 2023, and commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Christmas Day is a holiday of sharing. People exchange Christmas gifts and cards with families and friends. The celebration last three days, from December 24 to 26, 2023.
St. Stephen's Day
St. Stephen's Day is observed on December 26, 2023, a holiday commemorating the life of St. Stephen, a Christian deacon and the first Christian martyr.
