Hari Raya Puasa, also known as Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Eid al-Fitr, is an important religious festival celebrated by Muslims in Singapore and Malaysia. It falls on the first day of Syawal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar.
In Maly, "hari raya" is for "big day of joy", and "Puasa" is for "fasting". Hari Raya Puasa is a celebratory occasion that marks the end of a month of fasting, also known as Ramadan.
During Ramadan, all Muslims are required to fast from dawn to sunset and perform religious duties, and the fast is broken after sunset. During Ramadan, Muslims must also distribute about 2.5 percent of their income to the poor and needy.
Hari Raya Puasa is a holiday full of joy. Muslims wear new clothes, decorate their houses, visit relatives and friends, and visit mosques to pray.
