Day of the Valencian Community

Day of the Valencian Community is a regional holiday in the autonomous community of Valencia in Spain, and it is observed on October 9 each year. The holiday commemorates the date when King James I officially conquered the city of Valencia from Moorish forces in 1238.

The Valencian Community is an autonomous community in Spain and its capital is Valencia. It is located on the east side of the Iberian peninsula along the Mediterranean coast, and the area has long been a human settlement for thousands of years.

Moroccan and Arab Moors occupied the city of Valencia in 714. In 1238, the Christian king James I of Aragon conquered the city and established the new Kingdom of Valencia with its own constitution.

During the War of the Spanish Succession in the 18th century, Valencia sided with the King Charles of Austria who promised to protect the laws of the Kingdom. After Philip V of Spain conquered the area, he abolished the Kingdom of Valencia as a punishment.

The Valencian community was granted self-government as an autonomous community on July 1, 1982.
