Castile-La Mancha Day commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Villalar, which is a battle between the citizens of Castile against the rule of Charles I and his administration on April 23, 1521.
The celebration started at Villalar in 1976, and in 1986, the government of Castile and León established April 23 as an official holiday.
