Carnival (Antigua and Barbuda)

Carnival is a public holiday in Antigua and Barbuda, and it takes two days: Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday. The holidays are observed on the first Monday and the following Tuesday in August.

The holiday was originally celebrated the night before Lent fasting, which lasts 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, excluding Sunday in the Christian churches.

However, Carnival is to celebrate the slavery abolishment in many Caribbean countries. As a result, many Caribbean countries observe the Carnival celebrations in July or early August to commemorate the anniversary of when slavery was abolished on August 1, 1834.
