Buddha's Birthday (Macau)

Buddha's Birthday is a public holiday in Macau, and it is observed on the 8^th day of the 4^th month in the Asian lunisolar calendar.

Buddha's Birthday is the day that celebrates the birthday of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who was later known as Gautama Buddha and the founder of Buddhism. During the Buddha's Birthday festival, lanterns are hung in the temples, and people dance with the wooden dragon statues. Many temples will bathe the Buddha with water, and provide free meals and tea to visitors.

Buddhism is a popular religion in Macau. According to Buddhism beliefs, some citizens may free fish or caged birds to achieve merits, which will bring good luck.
