Auckland Anniversary Day

Auckland Anniversary Day is a public holiday in the regions of Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne regions, as well as some parts of the Manawatū-Whanganui and Hawke's Bay regions, and it is observed on the Monday closest to January 29 each year.

Auckland Anniversary Day was originally celebrated in the historic Auckland Province, New Zealand, which was abolished in 1876. In Northland region, it is named Northland Anniversary Day.

Auckland Anniversary Day celebrates the arrival of William Hobson in the Bay of Islands in 1840, who later became the first governor of New Zealand.

Auckland Anniversary Day has been a public holiday in the Auckland Province area since 1841.
