ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day is the national holiday in Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and the Cook Islands, and it is observed on April 25 each year.

ANZAC Day is one of the most important national occasions in Australia and New Zealand, and it commemorates all those who served and died in wars and peacekeeping operations.

The acronym ANZAC stands for "Australian and New Zealand Army Corps", and the soldiers were known as Anzacs. ANZAC Day was originally in honor of the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Battle of Gallipoli.

It was a military campaign in the First World War in 1915 when Australian and New Zealand soldiers tried to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula to open the way to the Black Sea for the Allied navies. On April 25, 1915, the ANZAC force landed at Gallipoli, but they encountered fierce resistance from the Ottoman Army.

Both the Allied forces and the Turkish side suffered heavy casualties. The Allied forces had over 250,000 casualties including 46,000 dead, and the Turkish side had over 250,000 casualties with 65,000 dead.
