Assumption Day

Assumption Day, also known as Assumption of Mary, is an important religious festival celebrated by Christians. It is celebrated on August 15 yearly for Christians (or August 28 in the Julian Calendar).

Assumption Day commemorates the day that the bodily taking up of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, into Heaven. Assumption Day is important to Christians because they believe this is a symbol of promise from Jesus to all enduring Christians that they will also be taking up to Heaven.

Eastern Christians commemorate the falling asleep or death of Mary. There are different ideas on the death and assumption of Mary. Many Christians believe that Mary first died, but she was miraculously resurrected before being assumed. However, others believe she was assumed bodily into Heaven without first dying.

Assumption Day is a public holiday in many countries around the world.
