Armed Forces Day (Azerbaijan)

Armed Forces Day is a public holiday in Azerbaijan, and it is observed on June 26 each year.

Armed Forces Day commemorates the establishment of armed forces in Azerbaijan. After Azerbaijan declared independence from the Russian Empire on May 28, 1918, the Republic formed its army on June 26, 1918. However, the army was dissolved when Azerbaijan was invaded and absorbed into the Soviet Union on April 28, 1920.

In 1991, Azerbaijan restored its independence after the collapse of the Soviet Empire. The armed forces were reformed with the Soviet equipment left in Azerbaijan. Currently, the armed forces have 3 branches: the Azerbaijani Land Forces, the Azerbaijani Air Force, and the Azerbaijani Navy.
