Argentina Independence Day

Argentina Independence Day is a public holiday in Argentina, and it is celebrated on July 9 each year. The holiday celebrates the declaration of the independence of Argentina from the Spanish Monarchy on July 9, 1816 by the Congress of Tucumán.

Following the deposition of the Spanish king Ferdinand VII by the Napoleonic French, May Revolution took place in 1810, which reduced the power of the Spanish monarchy in the Americas. Although the Spanish monarchy resumed its functions in 1814, the union between the overseas dominions of Spain and the Spanish monarchy had been dissolved. The deposition of the Spanish king later became a legal concept that led to the declaration of independence in the Spanish Americas.
